Matias Alvarez

About the Author

Matias Alvarez is a lifelong storyteller drawn to big ideas, bold characters, and the thrill of the unknown. A three-time DGA Award winner and five-time nominee, he has spent decades shaping stories across film, television, and now fiction—stories marked by emotional depth, visual imagination, and a deep respect for the audience.

Raised in the mountain town of Park City, Utah, Matias grew up skiing, hiking, and chasing adventure—experiences that still fuel his creative work today. Sports and the outdoors taught him about risk, resilience, and rhythm—tools he now brings to every story he tells. Whether behind a camera or at a writing desk, he believes the best stories are the ones that move us, surprise us, and stay with us long after the final page.

Inspired by Tom Sawyer and the wide unknown, he created Tom Tomorrow to explore truth, rebellion, science, and memory in a future not far from our own.

He studied at the University of Colorado Boulder and UCLA, and lives in Utah with his wife, Julie Wrathall Alvarez, and their children.
